On November 24, 2015, Kaplan Fox, working with co-counsel, obtained final settlement approval from Judge William Mayhew in Verdie v. Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc., Stanislaus County Superior Court, Case No. 2004280. Our lawsuit was filed in November 2013 on behalf of consumers who purchased (or received as a gift) defective Mitsubishi LaserVue Televisions. Plaintiff’s case alleged that Mitsubishi’s LaserVue TV’s contained a defect in the optical engine that caused video and color anomalies to be displayed that caused the television to not work properly. The lawsuit alleged that Mitsubishi violated consumer protection laws and breached its warranties with consumers who purchased the expensive televisions for $5,000 or more.
The court-approved settlement allows consumers to receive a 100% reimbursement of any out of pocket expenses spent to repair the television as well as an extension and enhancement of their original manufacturer’s warranty that will allow owners to seek free repairs for the problems complained of in the lawsuit. Class members are also eligible for cash payment of no less than $500 depending on a pro-rated depreciation schedule. Eligible consumers include those that purchased or received a Mitsubishi LaserVue DLP Television, models L65-A90, L75-A91, L75-A94, or L75-A96(“LaserVue TV” or “Television”), between January 1, 2008 and July 13, 2015.
