On November 7, 2019, Judge Madeline Cox Arleo of the U.S. District Court in New Jersey has appointed Laurence D. King to the steering committee to assist with the management and prosecution of a sprawling multi-district litigation arising out of a medical records data breach involving a number of major laboratory companies, including Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, CareCentrix, and Sunrise Medical Labs, among others. The lawsuits generally arise from reports in June 2019 that the American Medical Collection Agency (“AMCA”), a third-party that handles billing services for various labs, suffered a data breach that exposed health records and financial information for as many as 12 million people.
Laurence D. King is a partner at Kaplan Fox with extensive experience representing patients in cases alleging their medical information was wrongfully disclosed or stolen against hospitals, insurers, and healthcare conglomerates. He is currently appointed as co-lead class counsel in multi-district litigation against Horizon Healthcare Services for a similar data breach.
